Volunteer Work Information

Greetings from Wallowa Lake Camp and Retreat Center. Thank you for your interest in being a Volunteer at Wallowa Lake Camp this summer. Please read the following important information:

Basic requirements of volunteer service:

  • You need to have a desire to be an active member of a Christian community and be able to serve the mission of Camp and Retreat Ministries. Community life embraces all of God’s people and is strengthened by diversity of faith, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and age.
  • You need to be in good physical health. Most jobs involve standing for extended periods of time, bending, lifting, and carrying.
  • You must be at least 18 year of age.
  • You may apply for as little as one day or as long as our entire summer season
    (May 20-Oct 10).
  • You may choose to work for 8 hours a day in exchange for room and board or 4 hours a day and pay half the regular event fee.

When can you volunteer?

  • The summer season runs from May 20-Oct 10th.
  • We begin processing applications for summer volunteers in February.
  • Work areas are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Responsibilities and assignments

  • Staff are to work 8 hours per day or 4 hours per day and pay one half the fee of camp.
  • Staff working more than one week are entitled to one day off per week.

Expenses and compensation

  • Room and board are provided in full for volunteers working 8 hours a day and at half price for those working 4 hours a day.
  • Transportation to and from camp is your responsibility.
  • Expenses at camp will depend on your interest in the activities and attractions available nearby. See web link for more information on these opportunities.

Special volunteer options

  • Work half/Pay half .....especially for:
    Senior volunteers
  • Physically-challenged volunteers
  • Volunteers seeking additional personal time

What kinds of jobs are available?

  • Work areas at Wallowa Lake Camp are briefly described below under Volunteer Work Areas.
  • Please choose the two areas you would most enjoy
and indicate those on your application.
  • Work assignments will be based on both your preference and the camp's needs. You may be assigned to a work area that is not one of your first two choices because of our needs. It may also be necessary to move you from one work area to another. Your willingness to serve where you are needed most is greatly appreciated.
